SW FL-Bonita Beach: Grouper, Snapper, Shark, and lots of rough seas

After about six days off the water, due to high winds and seas offshore and shallow, muddy conditions in the bay, I finally got offshore with Ron Musick, Eddie Alfonse, Dick Arnett, Bob Mayer, and Matt Watson on Thursday, 4/26. We headed out of New Pass to 36 miles, where we fished with live shrimp and pinfish. The group caught a keeper, 21-inch red grouper on a pinfish, and used live shrimp to catch two 14-inch yellowtail snapper, three mangrove snapper in the 13-14-inch range, fifteen keeper…See More

Florida Redfish Report/Daytona/NewSmyrna/Orlando/MosquitoLagoon

May 2012 brings the beginning of summer fishing patterns to Mosquito Lagoon Florida. I had a great April with loads of fun charter trips, many Redfish were caught sight fishing on the grass flats, some great Seatrout also as these are the main 2 target species here on the Lagoon. With low water levels during this our dry season, much of my flats fishing has focused on the edges where the flats drop off to deeper water, Mullet bait schools along with the game fish stay near these edges where the…See More

Fort Lauderdale Fishing ReportApril 23, 2012This year has been a weird weather year but the fishing has continued to be red hot. We just had a rare late-April cold front move through Fort Lauderdale and the sailfish started to bite again. We caught four nice fish the day before and three more today. I heard of some boats landing six or more…See More

Pensacola Fishing - Trout & Redfish on the flats!

May has arrived with great shallow water fishing. The trout bite is on fire with the in-coming tide, and if you like night fishing, word has it that big trout are crushing live and artificial shrimp on the dock lights. I went out last Sunday with my son and hit the flats in the afternoon with the incoming tide where we hammered the trout and hooked up on some nice reds. We were pitching artificials including MirrOlure’s suspending twitch baits and Bass Assassin’s soft plastics with ¼ - 1/8 oz…See More

South indian River Fishing Forecast - May

May Fishing Forecast for the Treasure CoastInshore:Finally, the windy months of March and April are almost behind us and we can look forward to the great fishing weather that May has to offer us on the Treasure Coast. Other than the usual windy days, it has been a pretty mild winter and spring has arrived. Look for warmer temperatures and little less blustery days. As the water temperatures climb, the fishing will steadily improve on the river. It will provide fantastic mornings for top water…See More

Kona Hawaii fishing report - April wrap-up

Kona Hawaii fishing report – April wrap-up . I have to report that there weren’t a whole lot of marlin caught this month but I can easily point to the cause being a lack of fishing effort. If only 1/3 of the boats (or less) that would normally be out fishing in April are going out on charters, then you can expect a big drop in the number of marlin being caught also. Tourism is so slow right now that on several days that I fished this month, the parking lot was near empty, I was the only boat in…See More

SW FL-Bonita beach: Lane Snapper Plentiful, Red Grouper, Shark & Goliath Battles

Monday, 4/9, seas had calmed at last, and I headed out to fish in spots between 22 and 28 miles west of New Pass with Bill Conklin, his son, Eric Conklin, and friend, Rick Weigand. Bill caught a keeper red grouper at 21 inches, and we released lots of red grouper just short of keeper size. The group also caught fourteen keeper lane snapper. They released gag grouper and mangrove snapper shorts, along with two sandbar sharks, one at 38 inches and the other at 40 inches. We used live shrimp for…See More

Lady Pamela 2

April 9, 2012Today Mike and I had two half day charters on the Lady Pamela IV. On the morning charter we had retired NFL quarterback Elvis Grbac and his family out fishing for a four hour trip. We caught a few live baits then went to a shipwreck about 5 miles north of Port Everglades inlet. We baited the rods and on the first drop on the shipwreck we hooked a massive fish. Elvis's son had a great fight on his hands, but he finally brought in a huge amberjack. We trolled around for another hour…See More

Mosquito Lagoon Florida Sight Fishing Redfish, Seatrout, Black Drum

We have had a great fun spring of fishing charters so far here on Mosquito Lagoon, sight fishing conditions have been favorable with mostly calm days and great Florida sunshine. Our clear water grass flats allow us to see Redfish, Seatrout and Black Drum making for challenging targets for the sight and fly fishermen to test your skills. Fishing either artifical lures or natural baits depending on the best chance of a hook up in conditions of the day. Here is a pic of a client great Black Drum…See More

Mosquito Lagoon and New Smyrna Beach Fishing Report for April 2012

April 11th, 2012 Orlando Florida Saltwater Flats Fishing ReportWell the past few weeks have been just phenomenal here in the east central Florida back country waters of both the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River flats. Not only the fishing, but the weather too here in Oak Hill, Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach along with all of the Orlando area saltwater inshore fishing. You could not ask for better weather to be in, fish in or live in than that of the weather that has been here amongst us this…See More

Lady Pamela 2 March 31 report

March 30, 2012 Today, Darin and I were joined by Marc and his family from Ohio, for a day of fishing here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We started the first few hours of the trip trolling for kingfish and tuna on the reef, working fresh ballyhoo and bonito strips from 80 to 350 feet of water. We had a few bites on the planers in 120 feet of water, but no good hookups. We finally caught one of the kingfish nipping the baits, then reeled everything in and went shark fishing. We put fresh baits out…See More

South Indian River Fishing Report

April 9, 2012Inshore:The winds of spring made fishing more challenging this past week, but the fish are out there if you can brave the conditions. Strong winds blew most days and kept us off some of the good fishing flats, but we still caught sea trout along with the many other species that inhabit the river.Trout was still the main bite, but lots of jacks and bluefish are around the river to bend a rod. Griffin battled two jacks to begin his day on the river. He loves to fish and we enjoyed…See More

SW FL-Bonita Beach: Red Grouper are Back!

Monday morning, 3/26, I fished over hard bottom in 35 feet, with Chris Ernberger, his dad, Jerry, and Chris's son, Carter. There was about a 3-foot roller left over from the windy Sunday that preceded our trip, so we didn't venture too far offshore. The guys used live-shrimp to catch six keeper mangrove snapper to 15 inches, a keeper lane snapper, a keeper triggerfish, and some whitebone porgies. They released additional mangrove snapper that were shorts, along with six additional triggerfish…See More

Mosquito Lagoon Florida Redfish/Daytona/NewSmyrna/Orlando

March was a fun fishing month with transition patterns here on Mosquito Lagoon Florida, early spring with the warm winter we had, some Redfish remain in their cool water schools, while others have left school, going out on their own in small groups, pairs, and singles. With mullet schools beginning to form on the flats, starting our summer type pattern. Redfish and Seatrout mix in with the grazing mullet as the vegetarian baitfish dig in the grass for algae, they are displacing shrimp, baby…See More

Kona Hawaii fishing report - March wrap-up

Kona Hawaii fishing report March wrap-up . After “grander” blue marlin were caught both in January and February, It was looking good for another one in March because March is known to be a good month for granders here. While there is still today left to make the mark, the biggest blue marlin of the month weighed in at just under 900 lbs. In the beginning of March there was a pretty good marlin bite and there were a few “beast” status (over 500 lbs.) marlin caught but the bite has really slowed…See More

SW FL-Bonita Beach: 20lb. Kingfish, Shark, Spanish, Mangs, Hogs

Monday, 3/12, after a windy weekend, winds were predicted to calm somewhat, and seas were forecast at two-to-three feet near-shore, and three-to-five feet beyond twenty miles. But, as I approached the near-shore reefs with Mark McCarthy, Mark and David Hatch, and Rich Jenkins (who was celebrating his birthday) I knew we were in for some rough seas, even six miles off the beach. We had three-to-four foot seas all morning, with winds of 15 to 25 knots. But the guys were hardy, and they did well,…See More
