INSHORE:
I usually talk about windy weather in March, but here we are in November and we have windy conditions throughout the Treasure Coast and it appears to be here for several days. The fishing has been very good out there, but few anglers have been able to brave the choppy waters to give it a try. I managed a day out earlier in the week, but had to cancel the last couple of days with small craft advisories out.
The pompano bite has been good and I found some early in the…

FLORIDA FISHING REPORT FOR THE WEEK ENDING 10/31/09
by
Capt. Butch Rickey
florida fishing reports
I managed two trips this week. Missed one with my good friend Bruce Miller when he spent the night sick before we were to fish on Thursday.
Friday morning I met Larry Lessard, who is a neighbor, and has been doing my yard and lawn trimming for some time, now. He's a very nice guy, but I've never had the opportunity to spend any time with him, and I was looking forward to this trip.
We left the d…

October is nearly over and the great fishing that I have been talking about for the past three weeks hasn’t really materialized as I had described it. This is due to the unusually hot conditions that we are experiencing this Fall. Because of the very hot conditions it looks good that we will see a Fall fishing pattern that could reach way into December. Finally this past week signs of the Fall Migration getting under way in South Florida have been apparent. My last five charters took place in No…

Fishing along Florida's Space Coast has been good reports Captain Keith Mixon of Lakeland (
www.mixinworkwithplay.com). In the past week, several trout weighing up to four pounds have been caught at first light near S.R. 405 in the Indian River. Top water lures fished with a slow retrieve have worked exceptionally well along the grass flats in three to four feet of water. A seven foot medium action spinning reel combo rigged with ten pound test Power…

Exclusive Report
On a boating tour through the Keys, Scott and Sharon Gibson pulled into Burdine's and decided to spend a few days in Marathon before heading to Fantasy Fest in Key West. The Indianapolis couple included a day of fishing with Capt. Chris Johnson and SeaSquared Charters out of the 7 Mile Marina.
They went to the gulf in search of keeper grouper, but came up short. They caught plenty of gags, but none large enough to be eligible for the fish box. They also tagged and released two…

INSHORE:
Warm fall weather has been the norm lately along the Treasure Coast. Light winds have allowed anglers to enjoy the great fishing action around the Indian River. Lots of baitfish all over the river this time of year makes it a fantastic time to fish. There is some great action all over the area, so plan on a fishing adventure soon!
Trout fishing continues to be the best bite all along the river. Jim Kosko, son, Brennan, and his friend, Grey was out with me earlier in…

fall and the reds have arrived in full force. It usually takes a few cold fronts to get the reds on the move, but the one that moved in last week was like two cold fronts in one, and it certainly did the trick. I’ve been out a few times this past week, and the bite has been great. To entice the reds to eat, I’m pitching 1 – 2 oz Spro Buck Tail jigs in either white or chartreuse. If I’m anchored up, I’ll use some cut mullet or menhaden Carolina rigged with a 4/ 0 – 5/0 circle hook. When the bite…

The cold front two weeks ago pushed the wave heights up to eight feet. We were stuck inside and it was hard to fish the river with wind gusts up to thirty miles per hour. We did manage to catch jacks, lady fish, and blue fish at the Ten Cent Bridge using shrimp tipped jigs We also hooked up some over the slot snook in the canals of the north fork of the St. Lucie River on live mullet. Over the past weekend we were able to get out of the inlet. We saw schools of blue fish feeding just south of th…

FLORIDA FISHING REPORT FOR THE WEEK ENDING 10/24/09

florida fishing reports
Only one trip this week, so a short report as well.
My one trip was with my old friend Dr. Ron Kolata. Ron and I go back some twelve years, and always have a great time. And Ron, his wife Pat, and I have a lot of fun outside of fishing.
That big early season front that came through last weekend spoiled our initial plans of fishing on Monday. Then, as is always the case, it blew most of the week,…

Sarasota Florida Fishing Report
By Capt. Bob Smith
Finally some cooler weather is coming our way! As we see the Gulf water
temperature drop, we should see the fishing improve. When the water
temperature is in the low seventies, I think that is the best for all around
fishing. For now, we have some seatrout, Spanish mackerel, bluefish, Jacks,
ladyfish, and an occasional flounder in the shallow water on the Middle
Ground grass flats. Live pilchards, shrimp and the DOA artificial…

Mosquito Creek Outdoors Indian River Lagoon Coast Fishing Report, October 16, 2009

By the time you read this report, our first significant cold front of the year will be upon us, and changing weather conditions will have an impact on fishing next week.
You my recall from my last report, I'm currently off of the water recovering from abdominal surgery, so the information within this report has been provided by several close fishing friends and will serve as a general ov…

florida fishing reports
I got in two trips this week, and both were with old friends that I've known and fished with for years; Bruce Miller, of Cape Coral, and Ron “Texas Wader” Hunter, of Palmetto. Fishing with old friends makes even the tough days great.
Bruce and I were up on Wednesday. We'd been trying to get this trip in for a long time, and it seemed every day we scheduled wound up being big…

INSHORE:
We have enjoyed lots of great fishing around the Treasure Coast this week. Maybe not a lot of big fish, but plenty of action to keep rods bending in all directions. Hoards of baitfish around the river has the fish gorging themselves on the easy meals. We have caught a variety of species and have lots of fun out there!
While trout have continued to bite well on the flats, the big news has been that the pompano have shown up in the river. Anglers have been waiting for…

florida fishing reports
I managed to run two out of three scheduled trips this week. It was a week plagued with equipment problems that worked only because my old friend Terry Ryan, who was on Sanibel for the week and scheduled to fish with me Sunday and Monday, swapped his beast of a Chevy diesel truck for my car for a couple of days, allowing me to get my boat to the ramp, and Terry and his gang to get around on the is…

Fished today, October 13 and what a difference from the past weekend. We had been experiencing record high temperatures and calm wind. Well, today was quiet the contrast with winds at a steady 20 and temperatures that felt like the 60's oh, and did I mention the light mist. I am ready for the record highs and calm wind to return. Now, it is not supposed to overnight go from summer to winter. This is supposed to take a few weeks or better a few months.
Now that I am finished complaining, how abo…

Bob's brother, John, was getting married at Hawk's Cay Resort, so the Longo clan from MA turned the event into a family gathering that even included some fishing.
Bob and his sons, Rob and Michael, spent a day fishing a couple of wrecks 20 miles out in the Gulf with Capt. Chris Johnson and SeaSquared Charters out of 7 Mile Marina.
Accustomed to catching stripers and fluke up north, the guys were impressed with the variety of fish they encountered in the Keys. In the snapper f…

Well this fall hasn't produced huge numbers of fish so far, but the quality has definitely been there for me. I primarily fish upper Tampa Bay from downtown St. Pete area all the way north. Water temps are working their way down with the cooler nights. Bait is out there, its just the size that hasn't been consistant for me. Rattlefish Cove and Christmas Pass flats have been producing "giller size" green backs, pinfish, and some assorted slad sized greenies. Mangrove Snapper bite for myself has b…

Fish on! I’ve heard these two words from many clients the past few trips and I never get tired of hearing them. The Spanish mackerel bite has been very good and should continue to stay this way for the next 6 weeks. Most of the Spanish are being caught in the middle of the bay; they are crashing large bait pods of blood minnows and glass minnows. We are also catching some in the pass and along the beaches.

Tarpon are still pretty thick all over the harbor. They are ranging from 15 to 160lbs. The bigger fish are eating a little better than the little ones. Between them and the schools of oversize redfish there's more than enough for a great day of fishing. To book a trip call 941-623-8640
