captain John SeaSquared Fishing Charters

Exclusive Report No one, least of all the Captain, expected the surprise visitor to the boat during this fishing charter! Captain's Blog - November 19, 2009 - Marathon Florida Keys - SeaSquared Charters set out for a day of reef fishing with some folks who spend the winter in Islamorada: Dora Potash, Bassi Kristmanns and David Barr. Yellowtail snapper was the target and, boy, that fishing was just plain silly! Even with a self-imposed 14 inch minimum size, the group limited out on mostly 16-pl… Continue

captain John SeaSquared Fishing Charters

Exclusive Report Pete Donnelly, of Key Colony Beach FL and Spring Lake NJ, hosted a group of friends visiting from the Jersey Shore for a day of fishing with SeaSquared. The original intent was to go to the far Gulf in search of cobia. However, due to the 30-40 knot winds, the course was changed and the group went for a half day of shark fishing instead. The waters were alive with sharks. There were so many that, on more than on occassion, they were hooked up to one when the bait slid up the… Continue

captain John SeaSquared Charters

Exclusive Report Marathon locals Jim McDermott (L) and John Yaquinto enjoyed a half day of reef fishing with SeaSquared Charters. Conditions were excellent with wind and current running in the same direction. There was a nice breeze out of the northeast and the visability at 50 feet was crystal clear. The yellowtail were thick and responded quickly. The guys lost a couple of the larger 'tails to goliath grouper and a big king mackerel. They got their limit of 16-17 inch yellowtail in about 90… Continue

Capt. John Rivers IDA has come and gone, but have no fear, the reds are still here.

Well, tropical storm IDA has come and gone, but have no fear, the reds are still here. I had a short 4-hr trip today, and as predicted, the bite was very good. We caught some good fish and fought a few that pulled the hooks, but all in all, had a great day on the water. Today’s biggest fish was around 22lbs, and the fight it gave my client was awesome, especially on light tackle.

Web www.barhoppr.com FLORIDA FISHING REPORT FOR THE WEEK ENDING 11/14/09 by Capt. Butch Rickey florida fishing reports It was another windy week as Ida made her way up the Gulf to Mississippi, and I didn't get out until Friday. My trip was the first with Chris Heaphy and his lovely wife Jan, and his son Kyle, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Chris and I had corresponded back and forth quite a bit on email, and I could tell from that he would be great to hav… Continue

I apologize for the lapse in fishing reports lately but that happens when I am busy and that is the reason I have not written recently. Fishing has been very good despite the crazy weather we have had recently. I operate my business from a 22’ Pathfinder Tournament Edition Bay Boat that is powered by the most dependable outboard engine on the market. A Yamaha F-225 Four Stroke outboard engine! This boat and outboard along with my Continental Trailer and my Chevy Avalanche SUV allow me to go wher… Continue

Mosquito Creek Outdoors Indian River Lagoon Coast Fishing Report, November 13, 2009 By Captain Tom Van Horn As you step outside here in Orlando, you will clearly notice winter is in the air. Earlier this week, squally conditions brought on by a late season tropical blow, Ida, settled in across Florida and the southeast states and was eventually pushed out into the Atlantic by a cold front. Although Central Florida did not experience a significant rain event, clashing barometric pressure system… Continue

Captain Charlie Conner Windy South Indian River Fishing Report 11/12

November 11, 2009 INSHORE: Tough fishing conditions along the Treasure Coast had anglers scratching their heads and wondering when and where they might go fishing lately. Lots of wind each day made it a challenge to get out on the water. Offshore was pretty much out of the question and inshore wasn't much better. After canceling several days, we finally made the attempt on Sunday. It made for a very limited area to fish. Will Whitehead and his friend, Ty Fisher, were back out with me on Sunda… Continue

Hot Fall Action A little change in the temperature and you guessed it, the fishing is superb. Trout by the truck loads are everywhere. Now, the challenge is sorting through the millions of 14 to 14 3/4 inch fish to find a few for the grease but if you keep at it you should have no problem getting enough to feed the family. Here is what I have been doing to catch a bunch and take home a few nice ones. Some things you will need: A trolling motor with plenty of juice. A light action rod and reel.… Continue

Night time fishing along Florida's Space Coast has been good reports Captain Keith Mixon (www.mixinworkwithplay.com). With a combination of clear skies and a bright full moon, several large trout measuring up to twenty inches have been caught along the flats in three feet of water or less. Small top water lures such as MirrOlure's MirrOmullet Surface Walker (color 808) worked slowly near school of bait fish (mullet) has enticed many of these trout t… Continue

Captain Charlie Conner South Indian River Fishing Report 11/6

November 6, 2009 INSHORE: I usually talk about windy weather in March, but here we are in November and we have windy conditions throughout the Treasure Coast and it appears to be here for several days. The fishing has been very good out there, but few anglers have been able to brave the choppy waters to give it a try. I managed a day out earlier in the week, but had to cancel the last couple of days with small craft advisories out. The pompano bite has been good and I found some early in the… Continue

FLORIDA FISHING REPORT FOR THE WEEK ENDING 10/31/09 by Capt. Butch Rickey florida fishing reports I managed two trips this week. Missed one with my good friend Bruce Miller when he spent the night sick before we were to fish on Thursday. Friday morning I met Larry Lessard, who is a neighbor, and has been doing my yard and lawn trimming for some time, now. He's a very nice guy, but I've never had the opportunity to spend any time with him, and I was looking forward to this trip. We left the d… Continue

October is nearly over and the great fishing that I have been talking about for the past three weeks hasn’t really materialized as I had described it. This is due to the unusually hot conditions that we are experiencing this Fall. Because of the very hot conditions it looks good that we will see a Fall fishing pattern that could reach way into December. Finally this past week signs of the Fall Migration getting under way in South Florida have been apparent. My last five charters took place in No… Continue

Exclusive Report On a boating tour through the Keys, Scott and Sharon Gibson pulled into Burdine's and decided to spend a few days in Marathon before heading to Fantasy Fest in Key West. The Indianapolis couple included a day of fishing with Capt. Chris Johnson and SeaSquared Charters out of the 7 Mile Marina. They went to the gulf in search of keeper grouper, but came up short. They caught plenty of gags, but none large enough to be eligible for the fish box. They also tagged and released two… Continue

Captain Charlie Conner South Indian River Fishing Report 10/29

October 29, 2009 INSHORE: Warm fall weather has been the norm lately along the Treasure Coast. Light winds have allowed anglers to enjoy the great fishing action around the Indian River. Lots of baitfish all over the river this time of year makes it a fantastic time to fish. There is some great action all over the area, so plan on a fishing adventure soon! Trout fishing continues to be the best bite all along the river. Jim Kosko, son, Brennan, and his friend, Grey was out with me earlier in… Continue

Capt. John Rivers The bull reds have arrived in Pensacola in full force and the bite is red hot !!!!

fall and the reds have arrived in full force. It usually takes a few cold fronts to get the reds on the move, but the one that moved in last week was like two cold fronts in one, and it certainly did the trick. I’ve been out a few times this past week, and the bite has been great. To entice the reds to eat, I’m pitching 1 – 2 oz Spro Buck Tail jigs in either white or chartreuse. If I’m anchored up, I’ll use some cut mullet or menhaden Carolina rigged with a 4/ 0 – 5/0 circle hook. When the bite… Continue

captain John Captain Kevin Drennan

The cold front two weeks ago pushed the wave heights up to eight feet. We were stuck inside and it was hard to fish the river with wind gusts up to thirty miles per hour. We did manage to catch jacks, lady fish, and blue fish at the Ten Cent Bridge using shrimp tipped jigs We also hooked up some over the slot snook in the canals of the north fork of the St. Lucie River on live mullet. Over the past weekend we were able to get out of the inlet. We saw schools of blue fish feeding just south of th… Continue
